Holiday Shop is a longstanding annual tradition at Dilworth. For several days leading up to the holiday gift-giving season, the Dilworth PTA stages a miniature store of goods at Dilworth for students to buy gifts for their loved ones. Gifts are in the $0.50-$7 range, some handmade, some store-bought. Classes take turns shopping with PTA volunteers on hand to shop with the children, help them make choices, and keep track of their money. Holiday shop is both a fundraiser for the PTA, and a special holiday event for the children. Children do not have to participate, and those who do can spend as little or as much money as parents are comfortable with. PTA contributions also make sure that every child will be given the opportunity to shop if they want to, so that no kid feels left out.
There are several ways for families to help make Holiday Shop successful.
Volunteer.
We need lots of volunteers during the shop. This is a great opportunity to spend time with your kid(s) and their friends at school. Sign up to help set-up, support students while they shop, or help tear down the week of December 4, 2023 here. Volunteers do need to have clearances on file and be approved by the district. They should be submitted to Ms. Long in the office (klong1@pghschools.org). Email pghdtapta@gmail.com to let us know when you can come.
Craft!
We love handmade gifts. We'll take just about any handmade item, as long as you can provide at least 24 of them. Previous year successes have included: hand scrub, beard oil, necklaces, earrings, bookmarks, wood-burned wooden spoons, hand-painted mugs, potholders, crocheted pot scrubbers, magnets, and more! If you'd like feedback on something you're thinking of making, please email pghdtapta@gmail.com. Gifts with "Best Mom," "Greatest grandpa," etc. are always easy sells :). See our Holiday Shop Pinterest page for ideas and feel free to recommend more. Sign up here to indicate you'll be contributing something, or email pghdtapta@gmail.com with any questions.
Donate
You can donate items for the sale by making purchases from our Amazon Holiday Shop Wishlist. Items will be delivered directly to the school. Purchases like this allow us to both keep prices low for the kids and are pure fundraising profit for the PTA! It's a win-win.
Send your kids with money to shop
There is no obligation for parents to send kids in with money, and, again, we make sure that no kid feels left out. But money spent at Holiday Shop does help fund the PTA and supports the school. We'll be sending home forms that students can use to guide their shopping (Ex. uncle that likes basketball, grandma, 4 year-old sibling, 2 cousins etc.).
If you're interested in trying to shop with your child's class, the class schedule for shopping is posted above. Scheduling changes can happen last minute, so we can't make promises, but if you want to shoot to shop with your kid's class, odds are good. **You must have clearances on file in order to volunteer to be a shopping helper.
Note - 104 and 105 swapped slots from the originally posted schedule, and 106 should have been listed with K, not 1!
